Really?! I hear you…. but I decided to tackle the issue since I see them popping up. After consideration, they are a great transitional fall piece in your wardrobe.
I found some super cute ones from Massimo Dutti (always a great place to check out). If you are unfamiliar, it’s owned by Zara, but the price point is a tad higher, and for a 30+ customer. There are no stores in the US, but shipping is speedy. They do a great job copying runway looks, adding their own twist in a chic, non-obvious way. Their website is great, and the quality is good.
From left to right: Massimo Dutti (these have a clasp detail at the waist, which makes it more of a ‘trouser’ than a legging which is key) Mango (love the idea of leather fabrication), &Other Stories (these have two small slit pockets, a chic detail), Vince, (with the slit at the knee, it’s more of a ‘pedal pusher’ but again they have a zipper and clasp at the waist)
In my first look below, I took inspiration from The Row AW24. It’s an easy look to recreate. Here, I used an ancient Uniqlo cashmere sweater. A tip here is to buy the MENS cashmere crew neck or v-neck (this is a small). The quality is better, and the crewneck has better rib detail. The women’s crew neck has a wider neck opening and rib. I think the mens is chicer - but the same price. I would wait to buy cashmere at Uniqlo; they usually do some deals as the weather gets colder.
I always wear these three necklaces; they all have sentimental meanings. The largest is Laura Lombardi. I’ve been a fan of hers for years; she offers timeless, mixed metal pieces at a great price point. Perfect for treating yourself but not breaking the bank, and a wonderful gift to others. I like to flick my necklaces out when wearing a collar like this, and they kind of dangle down. I think it looks unexpected and a nice contrast to the tomboy look. I’ve half tucked the button down shirt to break up the look and define the waist more by showing the top of the waistband of the Capri’s.
My next look is a nod to Michael Kors and Arlington16 (both below) and the trend of the jumper scarf. It doesn’t have to be with a sleeveless knit like here; you could do a sleeved knit and push up the sleeves. These days, everyone is adding some scarf or jumper around their neck; look at the jacket scarf trend (hello Toteme) that we continue to be showered with. I like the simplicity of the grey knit with the capri pants; as I get older, I’m pairing back my outfits with less fuss and more quality. Mine is Lou Lou Studio; I found the same one here on The Real Real, but here are some similar to my own: the second to the left image below is from Mango, and others found are 10 Derek Lam Crosby and Rohe.
I also added my Mary Janes. They are Coach! I hear the surprise. A friend thought they were Carel (a French brand I’ve previously mentioned here), and I was thrilled. Honestly, they are actually more comfortable than my red Carels. I like them with the Capris; the block heel makes the outfit feel more substantial.
Next, I’m styling Capri pants with a little mix-and-match print and texture. Why does it work? Capri pants need to be worn with items that show the silhouette, especially around the waist; otherwise, they start to look like cropped leggings and get into some athleisure situation (another great topic to tackle). Another reason - I picked up this little corduroy workwear jacket from Nili Lotan - I’m obsessed with it as a perfect transitional piece this autumn. I’ve added others below, at a slightly lower price point, but still great! I especially love the new Alex Mill suit; super cute. The other great one is Boden. The Nili Lotan jacket works well with the pants as the length aligns with the waist of the capri pants, and the corduroy adds another dimension to the outfit - texture. I’ve put a classic striped top underneath. These are a staple in my wardrobe. (At one point, I had a whole drawer of them). The stripe breaks up the texture of the corduroy to neutralize it against the matte black of the pants.
I hope you enjoyed it! Please email or DM me with any style questions or items you’re struggling to incorporate into your wardrobe, and I’ll do my best to help!
Love,
